Contributed: Today, the Government of Belize signed an agreement for funding from the Republic of China (Taiwan) for the implementation of a project entitled, “Increasing Economic Power for Micro-Entrepreneurs.” The agreement was signed by Adele Catzim-Sanchez, CEO of the Ministry of Human Development, Families and Indigenous Peoples’, H.E. Amalia Mai, CEO of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, and Mr. Robert Pan, Chief of the Taiwan Technical Mission. The project is a part of an ongoing bi-lateral cooperation agreement with Taiwan focused on “Enhancing the Economic Empowerment of Women in Latin America and the Caribbean in the COVID-19 Post-Pandemic Era”.
This initiative seeks to increase women’s economic power by building their capacity for small business development, digital marketing and access to capital. Increasing women’s economic participation and financial inclusion reflects the Government’s commitment to implementing the National Gender Policy and the Plan Belize Medium Term Development Strategy. Women’s economic participation is a key strategy for reducing poverty, while boosting economic growth and fostering social cohesion.
The project will be implemented by the Family Support and Gender Affairs Department of the Ministry of Human Development, Families and Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs. Interested participants from the Corozal District, Belize City, San Ignacio/ Santa Elena Town and Dangriga Town are encouraged to apply.
