Belize City's e-buses a hit despite higher fares and fewer stops

By Belize Live News Staff: Seven weeks in, and the electric buses humming through Belize City are more than just a novelty – they’re a hit. Despite costing a bit more and having fewer stops, residents are embracing the switch to cleaner transportation.

Mayor Bernard Wagner isn’t just relying on anecdotal evidence. The numbers back up the positive buzz. Initial figures showed 15,000 passengers and $33,000 in revenue over five weeks. Then, in just one week after schools reopened, ridership jumped a whopping 30%, with over 4,000 people hopping on board.

“People are voting with their wallets,” Mayor Wagner remarked. “They want more e-buses, and that speaks volumes about how they feel about this program.” The city’s gamble on electric seems to be paying off, proving that Belizeans are willing to invest in a greener future, even if it comes with a slightly higher price tag. It’s a quiet revolution, but one that’s changing the face of public transportation in Belize City.
