By Belize Live News Staff: In a collaborative effort to boost economic opportunities in the Orange Economy, the Ministry of Investment, the National Women’s Commission, and the Corozal Think Tank have successfully concluded a “Cell phone repair course for women and youth” in Corozal Town.
Fifteen participants, including thirteen women and two men, completed the intensive ten-day training held at the Corozal ITVET from August 19th to 30th, 2024. The course aimed to equip participants with the skills necessary to start their own cell phone repair businesses, filling a gap in the market and creating self-employment opportunities.
Recognizing the lack of specialized training and the growing demand for skilled technicians, the program provided hands-on experience in cell phone upkeep, cleaning, maintenance, and repair. Graduates received certificates of completion and a set of essential repair equipment, including antistatic mats, electric multi-meters, soldering irons, and magnifying lamps, to kick-start their entrepreneurial journeys.
This initiative aligns with the broader goal of diversifying the district’s export-led economy by fostering entrepreneurship and enhancing skills, particularly within the Orange Economy. Cell phone repair, an essential service in today’s digital age, empowers women to generate income from home while contributing to content creation.
The closing ceremony was attended by prominent figures including Mrs. Thea Garcia-Ramirez, Chair of the Corozal Think Tank and President of the National Women’s Commission; Mr. Rick Pech, Manager of the Corozal ITVET; and Mr. Lincoln Blake, Director of the Investment Policy and Compliance Unit, Ministry of Investment.
Mrs. Garcia-Ramirez encouraged Corozal residents to stay informed about upcoming training opportunities, signaling a continued commitment to empowering the community through skill development.
