By Belize Live News Staff: Belize is hosting the 12th annual North American, Central American and Caribbean Directors of Civil Aviation (ICAO NACC DGCA) Meeting, marking the first time the Ministry of Civil Aviation has held this significant event. Over 100 aviation leaders from member countries have gathered in Placencia to discuss pressing issues facing the industry.
Prime Minister John Briceno highlighted the ongoing challenge of connectivity within Central America and the Caribbean, stating, “Connectivity continues to be one of the greatest challenges for us both in Central America and the Caribbean.” He emphasized the need for improved air travel routes and streamlined processes to enhance regional integration.
The conference aligns with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) designation of 2024 as the “year of facilitation,” focusing on improving the efficiency and accessibility of air travel. Discussions will cover aviation security, facilitation, and the implementation of ICAO standards.
Juan Carlos Salazar, Secretary General of ICAO, emphasized the transformative phase the aviation industry is undergoing, driven by sustainability, inclusion, digitalization, and the integration of new entrants. He encouraged active participation and feedback from attendees to ensure ICAO’s initiatives effectively address the evolving needs of the region.
The ICAO NACC DGCA meeting in Placencia represents a crucial platform for regional collaboration and the development of strategies to address the challenges and opportunities facing the aviation sector in the years to come.
