By Belize Live News Staff: In response to the imminent threat posed by Hurricane Beryl, the Belize Port Authority (BPA) has issued an official order for the closure of all ports within Belizean jurisdiction.
This decision, made in accordance with the standards of operation and the authority granted by the Belize Port Authority Act, aims to protect life and property from the severe weather conditions expected to impact Belize’s coastal areas.
The order mandates the following:
Port Closure: All ports are to be closed to ship arrivals and departures no later than 0900 hours on Thursday, July 4th, 2024.
Departure of Foreign Ships: All foreign-flagged ships must clear and depart Belizean territorial waters no later than 0700 hours on Thursday, July 4th, 2024, and are advised to seek safe harbor as per their emergency plans.
Entry Prohibition: Ships are prohibited from entering Belizean ports and harbors until the Ports Commissioner issues a written notice lifting this order.
The Belize Port Authority urges all ports, shipping agents, and the maritime community to stay informed about the storm’s progress and official notices from NEMO.
