By Belize Live News Staff: Belizeans across the country can expect a wet and stormy weekend as a powerful tropical wave moves through the region, according to the National Meteorological Service.
Today, we’ll see a mix of cloudy skies and sunny breaks, but don’t be fooled – scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop throughout the day. The wet weather will continue into tonight, with some areas, especially in the north, experiencing heavier rainfall.
An excessive rainfall watch is in effect for the entire country for the next 48 hours. Stay alert and keep an eye on the latest weather updates. If you’re concerned about flooding, don’t hesitate to contact the Hydrology Unit at 822-0667 for the latest information.
The Caribbean Sea is a hotbed of activity right now. A broad area of low pressure near the western Caribbean is already causing widespread showers and thunderstorms. While this system isn’t expected to develop further, another one brewing in the Tropical Atlantic is a different story. This system has a high chance of becoming a tropical depression or storm within the next 48 hours and is heading towards the Lesser Antilles.
Here’s a quick look at the temperatures you can expect today:
Coast: High of 87°F (31°C), low of 79°F (26°C)
Inland: High of 92°F (33°C), low of 74°F (23°C)
