By Belize Live News Staff: Belizeans can expect another day of cloudy skies, showers, thunderstorms, and periods of rain, particularly in central and northern areas, according to the National Meteorological Service’s morning forecast for today, June 17, 2024.
While the rain is welcome news for some, especially farmers battling drought conditions, authorities have issued an “Excessive Rainfall” advisory for the Belize and Northern Districts, urging residents to monitor the situation closely and prepare for potential flooding.
The persistent moist and unstable conditions across the country are creating a volatile weather pattern. Strong winds from the east to southeast, gusting up to 20 knots, will whip up the seas, creating moderate to rough conditions with waves reaching up to 7 feet. Small craft operators have been advised to exercise caution.
Temperatures will remain warm, with coastal areas experiencing highs in the mid-80s Fahrenheit (around 30 degrees Celsius). Inland regions could see temperatures soar into the mid-90s Fahrenheit (around 35 degrees Celsius), while the hills will enjoy slightly cooler temperatures in the low 80s and high 60s Fahrenheit (around 27-20 degrees Celsius).
The outlook for Tuesday suggests a temporary lull in the wet weather, with showers and thunderstorms becoming more isolated. However, the respite may be short-lived, as the forecast predicts an increase in rainfall Tuesday night, particularly along the coast.
The National Meteorological Service will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as needed. Residents are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions to stay safe during this period of unsettled weather.
