By Belize Live News Staff: Authorities are investigating the mysterious landing of a suspected drug plane in southern Belize, a case that now involves the questioning of at least two police officers. The aircraft, identified as a Grumman Gulfstream 2, reportedly landed sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday morning in a remote area between Crique Carco and Graham Creek, Toledo District.
By the time police arrived on the scene, the contents of the plane had been completely removed and the aircraft itself was set on fire, presumably to destroy any remaining evidence. The charred remains left behind suggest a well-coordinated operation likely executed under cover of darkness.
Sources indicate that at least two police officers are being interrogated as part of an internal investigation into whether police had any involvement or provided assistance in the operation. As of now, no formal charges have been filed.
The Ministry of Home Affairs and top security officials are monitoring the case closely, while the Belize Police Department continues its investigation in collaboration with international anti-narcotics units.
Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that may assist in identifying those responsible for the landing and destruction of the plane.
Stay tuned as more details unfold in what is shaping up to be one of the country’s most serious cases of suspected drug trafficking this year.
