By Belize Live News Staff: A frightening laundry day turned into a fight for safety for one Blue Creek family.
When a gas tank attached to a dryer caught fire inside a concrete washroom on Monday, a 31 year old woman found herself trapped. With flames spreading, she broke a small glass window in the bathroom and jumped out to escape.
Her husband, already burned while trying to close the leaking gas valve, ran to the family’s two storey house and brought their children out in case the fire spread.
The flames also engulfed a pickup truck parked near the washroom door. Family members managed to pull the burning vehicle away from the main house to stop the fire from reaching it.
The fire was eventually brought under control.
The couple was treated at the Blue Creek Clinic for burns to their arms, legs and face. Police say their injuries are not life threatening.
Scenes of Crime personnel processed the area, and the Fire Department is expected to carry out an inspection.
