By Belize Live News Staff: A Sunday night traffic accident near the 24/7 Gas Station on Belize-Corozal Road has resulted in four charges against a 30-year-old Orange Walk woman.
Police say the incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on October 25 and involved a white 2008 Toyota 4Runner and a blue-and-white Blue Bird bus.
According to the initial investigation, the bus was travelling toward Central Park from the direction of Carmelita when the Toyota, approaching from the opposite direction, attempted to turn into the gas station.
Investigators allege that the Toyota entered the opposing lane and collided with the bus.
The bus sustained damage to its front fenders, while the Toyota suffered damage to its rear right wheel.
Police identified the Toyota driver as Eleisaira Alejandra Pott, 30, and the bus driver as Donaldo Benito Vasquez, 59, of Ranchito Village.
During their investigation, officers reportedly discovered that the Toyota was operating without valid insurance and a current vehicle licence.
An officer also reported smelling alcohol on Pott’s breath and informed her that she was suspected of driving under the influence.
She was taken to the Orange Walk Police Station, where police obtained a urine specimen as part of their investigation.
On Monday, October 26, Pott was formally charged with four offences, including driving under the influence, driving without due care and attention, driving without third-party risk insurance and using an unlicensed motor vehicle.
