By Belize Live News Staff: The legal battle intensifies for Bethsa Ramirez, a San Pedro accountant who is facing theft charges after being accused of embezzling funds from La Diamante. The court refused to grant her bail, citing the risk of flight due to the substantial financial allegations against her.
According to the complainant, Lisa Guerrero, Ramirez was entrusted with financial management duties but allegedly used her position to misappropriate company funds from 2019 to 2023. A recent audit flagged multiple transactions where checks were cashed in Ramirez’s name, leading to suspicions of fraud.
However, her attorney, Audrey Matura, argues that the accusations lack solid evidence. She claims that Ramirez was simply following company instructions, and the financial discrepancies may stem from internal business practices rather than deliberate fraud.
Ramirez has been remanded until her next court date in April, but Matura has confirmed that a bail application will be submitted to the high court in the coming weeks. The case remains under investigation as both sides prepare for what could be a lengthy legal battle.
