Department of Youth Services expands reach with new Toledo branch

By Belize Live News Staff: The Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Transport celebrated a significant milestone with the official opening of the Department of Youth Services (DYS) Punta Gorda Branch. Strategically located at the corner of Prince and Olgaldez Street, this new facility aims to serve as a cornerstone for youth empowerment and development in the Toledo District.

More than a physical structure, the DYS Punta Gorda Branch is a hub for opportunity and transformation. The facility will deliver a wide range of youth-centered initiatives, including skills development programs, career counseling services, and community engagement projects. These efforts align with the Ministry’s overarching vision of empowering young Belizeans to reach their full potential and make meaningful contributions to the nation’s growth.

The opening ceremony, which celebrated unity and progress, featured speeches by Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Youth, Sports, and Transport; Oscar Requena, Area Representative of Toledo West; and Osmond R. Martinez, Area Representative of Toledo East. Each speaker reaffirmed their commitment to advancing youth development initiatives. Mayor Carlos Galvez concluded the event with closing remarks and participated in a ceremonial ribbon-cutting to officially inaugurate the branch.

Attendees also toured the facility, previewed its innovative programs, and witnessed certificates of recognition being awarded to boat captains in acknowledgment of their contributions to the community.

The Ministry extends heartfelt thanks to the public, community leaders, and partners for their steadfast support. Together, they are creating pathways for Belizean youth to thrive, ensuring a brighter and more prosperous future for all.
