By Belize Live News Staff: A Belize police officer has come under scrutiny after being caught on camera allegedly stealing money from a store he was assigned to protect. The shocking footage, which surfaced on social media, shows the officer opening a cash pan behind the store’s desk, rummaging through cash bills, and discreetly pocketing some of the money.
In the video, the officer is seen calmly stepping aside as the shop owner, a visibly distraught woman, enters the store. The footage shows him gesturing behind the desk and speaking to her, seemingly trying to explain his presence.
This is not the first time the officer has been implicated in questionable activities. In 2018, he was allegedly involved in an incident concerning aviation fuel near a drug plane landing. Despite the seriousness of that case, no disciplinary action was reportedly taken against him at the time.
The Belize Police Department has yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations.
