By Belize Live News Staff: Two police officers are being celebrated as heroes after rescuing four children trapped in a burning building on Sea Star Street in San Pedro early Sunday morning.
The fire, which destroyed two apartment buildings and a metal-framed garage, caused significant damage but could have ended in tragedy if not for the swift actions of Police Constables Robateau and Bradley. According to a police spokesperson, the officers rushed into the burning structure, navigating through thick smoke and intense heat to save the children, who were asleep and unaware of the danger.
Reports indicate that the children’s parents were not present at the scene when the fire erupted. Despite the challenging conditions, the officers managed to carry the children to safety, ensuring no injuries were reported.
The fire, which also destroyed nearby vehicles, has left the San Pedro community shaken but grateful for the officers’ courage. Many residents are calling for official recognition of their actions, which undoubtedly prevented a devastating loss of life.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire, with suspicions of arson being considered. As the investigation continues, the heroic actions of PC Robateau and PC Bradley serve as a powerful example of dedication and selflessness in the line of duty.
