Belize authorities incinerate over 1,000 pounds of seized narcotics

By Belize Live News Staff: Authorities have destroyed over 1,000 pounds of seized narcotics in Corozal District. The substantial haul, comprised of illicit substances accumulated from past operations, was incinerated under heavy security measures, with senior officials highlighting the exercise as a step towards transparency.

Sr. Superintendent Chris Noble, head of the administration in the Eastern Division, explained that the destroyed drugs were sourced from police seizures across various regions. “This is a significant disposal of items collected from arrests and concluded cases over the years,” Noble said.

Among the destroyed substances were cannabis, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and crack cocaine, totaling approximately 500 kilos. Noble emphasized that this operation, which follows a similar event held previously in Orange Walk District, is aimed at maintaining public trust by showcasing the authorities’ commitment to eliminating illegal drugs from circulation.

Officials have planned another large-scale drug destruction within the next six months as part of ongoing efforts to handle confiscated narcotics safely and transparently.
