Belizean athlete pistol-whipped by off-duty officer, plans to press charges

By Belize Live News Staff: Shaun Gill, the sole athlete to represent Belize at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, has alleged that he was assaulted by an off-duty police officer. According to Gill, the officer pistol-whipped him, leaving him with head and facial injuries.

While further details about the incident remain unclear, Gill, 31, has stated that he plans to press charges against the officer. He has not been criminally charged and intends to speak publicly about the situation once legal proceedings are initiated.

In addition to his sporting career, Gill, a native of Belize City, was recently accepted into the master’s program in Industrial Management at Texas A&M University.
