45 new Belizean citizens sworn in as country marks 45 years of Independence

By Belize Live News Staff: Belize marked a symbolic milestone during this year’s State of the Nation activities, with 45 new citizens officially sworn in and issued nationality certificates as the country celebrates its 45th anniversary of Independence.

The ceremony was held in Belmopan on September 15 and was attended by Cabinet members, members of the Diplomatic Corps and other invited guests.

Among those present was Taiwan’s Ambassador to Belize, Lily Li Wen Chi.

The citizenship ceremony was timed to coincide with Belize’s 45 years of nationhood, creating a direct link between the country’s Independence anniversary and the addition of 45 new Belizean citizens.

The ceremony formed part of the day’s wider programme, which also included Prime Minister John Briceño’s 2026 State of the Nation Address.

The Prime Minister’s speech covered national development, economic stability, affordability, energy security, education and other major national priorities.

Ambassador Chi said she was delighted to attend the event and expressed optimism about Belize’s future.
