By Belize Live News Staff: The National Hurricane Center’s latest Tropical Weather Outlook highlights an increasingly active Atlantic basin, with multiple areas showing the potential for tropical cyclone formation in the coming days and week.
Of immediate concern is a disturbance in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico. With an 80% chance of development into a tropical depression within 48 hours, this system is forecast to track northwest and then northward, potentially impacting the Gulf Coast of Mexico and Texas mid-week. While not a direct threat to Belize, this serves as a reminder that the hurricane season remains in full swing.
Further out in the Atlantic, an area of low pressure is churning. Currently meandering over the central tropical Atlantic, it carries a 40% chance of development within the next two days, increasing to 60% within a week. Its future track and potential impacts remain uncertain at this early stage.
Additionally, a third area of interest is brewing southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. While disorganized for now, it has a 50% chance of becoming a tropical depression by the middle or latter part of the week, as it begins a slow west-northwestward journey. Its long-term track and potential impacts are yet to be determined.
The NHC continues to closely monitor these developing systems, and Belizeans are urged to stay informed and prepared. Even though none of these systems currently pose a direct threat to our country, it’s crucial to remember that the hurricane season is far from over.
