By Belize Live News Staff: The Belize Tourism Board believes the new Frankfurt route will pay for itself many times over.
BTB aviation consultant Nico Gurwicz, who prepared the business case for the flight, estimates the economic impact could reach between 5 and 10 million dollars in a single season. The projection is based on the number of passengers the airline is expected to carry and how much those visitors are likely to spend while in Belize.
To secure the route, Belize is providing a revenue guarantee of roughly US$2 million spread over three years, a cost being shared with another destination in Central America.
Minister of Tourism Anthony Mahler says making the most of the opportunity will take a joint effort. He has already met with Belize’s top revenue generating hotels and resorts, urging them to be creative and develop packages tailored to European travellers.
Europe currently makes up about 9 to 10 percent of Belize’s tourism market, and the Ministry hopes the new service will grow that share.
Discover Airlines flights begin December 16, 2027, with tickets available from December 21 this year.
