Back-door escape fails as police close in on brawl suspect

By Belize Live News Staff: The back door was not far enough. When the Quick Response Team arrived at a Guinea Grass Village home on Saturday night, a man slipped out the rear exit and made for the darkness, and got precisely nowhere. Now he and a co-accused are formally charged over the restaurant brawl that left three people cut, stabbed, and beaten.

The Belize Police Department reports that officers apprehended the fleeing man within moments on Saturday, July 11, 2026. As he was being informed of the report against him, a woman walked up to the officers and identified herself, only to learn there was a report filed against her too. Both were arrested on the spot, cautioned, and taken to the Orange Walk Police Station.

They were identified as Darwin Daniel Suchite, 27, a construction worker, and Mabellene Vivian Ramos, 28, a domestic, both of Guinea Grass Village. After interviews conducted in the presence of Justices of the Peace, police obtained warrants, and on Monday, July 13, formally charged Suchite with grievous harm and wounding, and Ramos with harm. Both opted for silence when cautioned.

The charges flow from the now-infamous Friday night at a village restaurant, where an evening of ceviche collapsed into chaos. Jason Solis emerged slashed on his face, chest, and back, fearing for his life, his injuries certified as grievous harm. His brother-in-law Efrain Zetina was stabbed in the head and sliced across the stomach, certified as wounding. And Jahira Zetina was punched, her hair pulled, and bitten on the back, certified as harm. The complainant told police the fuse was an old relationship and a new one.

Two more people connected to the attack remain unaccounted for, and until charges land, their names stay unpublished.

A reminder as the matter heads to court: Suchite and Ramos, like anyone charged, are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. For a village where everyone knows everyone, the courtroom chapters of this story will be followed very closely indeed.
