Police seek driver after 13 year old boy struck while riding bicycle

By Belize Live News Staff: Orange Walk police are investigating after a 13 year old cyclist was reportedly struck by a pickup truck that failed to stop.

The incident happened at around 6:45 p.m. on September 11 along San Jose Drive.

According to the minor, he was riding his bicycle toward Maya Inca Street when he was hit near 9 De Octubre Street.

The impact caused him to fall off the bicycle and into a nearby empty lot.

The boy described the vehicle as a gold Ford Ranger single cab pickup with a licence plate ending in 84.

Police say the vehicle left the scene without stopping.

The minor suffered injuries to his right side, elbow and ankle. His injuries were later certified as harm by a doctor.

Police also reported damage to the bicycle and to the boy’s cellular phone.

A statement was recorded in the presence of the child’s father, and police are continuing their investigation.
