By Belize Live News Staff: Belize has stepped up to support its Caribbean neighbors, announcing nearly $1 million Belize dollars in humanitarian relief for Jamaica and Cuba in the wake of Hurricane Melissa, one of the strongest and most destructive storms to hit the Atlantic region this season.
According to an official release, the Government of Belize has contributed US$200,000 each (approximately BZ$800,000 total) to both nations to assist with urgent recovery and rebuilding efforts after the storm caused widespread damage to homes, infrastructure, and essential services.
In addition to financial support, Belize has also sent relief packages to Belizean students studying in Jamaica and Cuba. The shipments include canned foods, personal hygiene items, and emergency cash assistance to help those directly affected by the hurricane’s aftermath.
The government says it continues to monitor the situation closely and stands ready to offer additional assistance if necessary.
“Belize stands in steadfast solidarity with our Caribbean brothers and sisters,” the government said, reaffirming its commitment to regional unity, resilience, and mutual support in the face of climate-driven disasters.
