By Belize Live News Staff: An early morning police patrol in Orange Walk Town ended with a man charged for carrying a blade.
Officers were driving along Aurora Street just before 2:00am on Monday when they stopped a man walking ahead of them and searched him.
Tucked into his waistband, police say, was a wooden handled knife. Back at the station, they measured its blade at five and a half inches.
Under Belizean law, carrying a blade longer than three inches in a public place without lawful excuse is an offence.
Bartley Allen, 30, of Velvet Apple Street, was charged with possession of an article with a blade.
Police say patrols aimed at preventing crime and removing weapons from the streets will continue.
