By Belize Live News Staff: Tension lingers outside the Belmopan Magistrate’s Court as 21-year-old Christy Guzman awaits the outcome of her bail application.
This afternoon, just before 1:00 p.m., Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson adjourned the bail hearing until Monday. Guzman, represented by attorney Hurl Hamilton, will stay behind bars in the meantime.
The prosecution has not objected to bail, but the court has yet to rule on whether Guzman will be released. Yesterday, she was formally arraigned for manslaughter, but no plea was taken.
The charge arises from the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Wilson Hernandez on Sunday morning in Belmopan. Reports indicate Hernandez had a heated confrontation with his common-law partner, 37-year-old Dalia Vellos, shortly before the shooting occurred.
The decision on Guzman’s bail is now set for early next week.
