By Belize Live News Staff: A routine police patrol in Guinea Grass Village turned tense on Sunday night.
Two officers had stopped to make checks at a village store when, according to police, a man standing nearby began cursing at them, saying he was not afraid of police.
When the officers said they would search him, police say he backed away, shouted that no police would search him and pulled out a shiny metal object, swinging it in his hand.
One officer drew his .38 revolver and ordered him to drop it. The man obeyed and was quickly restrained.
Police recovered a folding utility knife measuring about seven inches.
The area was well lit at the time by a street lamp and the store’s lights, police said.
The man was held at the scene until more officers arrived and was later taken to the Orange Walk Police Station.
On Tuesday, Fidencio Camara, 48, was formally charged with aggravated assault.
