By Belize Live News Staff: Officers on foot in Orange Walk Town on Friday afternoon saw a man walking out of a place they knew well.
Police say the Quick Response Team was patrolling Staines Alley around 4pm when they spotted him leaving what officers described as a well known drug base.
They stopped him and told him a search would be conducted.
In his right hand was a transparent ziplock bag holding a white powdery substance.
Weighed at the station in his presence, it came to 0.36 grams of suspected cocaine. The bag was sealed in a labelled envelope with evidence tape, and he signed off on it.
Omar Amin Gonzalez, 58, unemployed and of Belize Corozal Road, was charged with possession of controlled drugs the same day.
He met station bail and is due at the Orange Walk Magistrate’s Court on September 2.
He chose to remain silent throughout.
