By Belize Live News Staff: Twenty dollars. That, according to an Orange Walk Town man, is the sum behind the two visitors who walked into his yard on Thursday morning and promised to kill him.
The Belize Police Department reports that the 34-year-old self-employed man was at home at about 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2026, when two men entered his yard, one a face he has known for eighteen years, the other an acquaintance of about a year.
He stepped out to ask what the matter was. The answer, according to his report, was aggression and a threat delivered plainly: they would kill him when they catch him on the street. They left the yard still uttering the promise.
The spark, he told police, was not even his own doing. A relative had taken $20 from the men during a drinking session, and the debt, such as it is, apparently transferred to his doorstep with interest measured in menace.
The morning sun left no room for doubt about who stood in his yard, he stated, and the fear they left behind was real enough to carry him to the police station, where he asked for court action.
Police have both men listed as wanted, and with no charges laid, no names appear here.
There is a bleak arithmetic to it all: a life threatened over a sum that would not cover a decent lunch. But threats of death are crimes regardless of the price tag attached, and the complainant did precisely the right thing by putting it on record while it is still only words.
