Superintendent Aaron Gamboa stopped from boarding U.S. flight after visa flagged

By Belize Live News Staff: Superintendent of Police Aaron Gamboa was prevented from boarding a U.S.-bound flight yesterday after airport authorities informed him that his American visa had been flagged. While his wife was cleared to travel, Gamboa was ordered to remain in Belize pending further clarification from U.S. officials.

The senior officer confirmed the incident and said he intends to consult both the U.S. Embassy and his attorney to determine why the alert was placed on his visa. Gamboa expressed confidence that the matter will be resolved quickly and maintained that he has done nothing wrong.

Gamboa believes the issue may be linked to the ongoing Joseph Budna kidnapping investigation, a case that has raised major national security concerns due to the alleged involvement of members of the Special Patrol Unit (SPU). As the unit’s commanding officer, Gamboa said he suspects the ongoing inquiry may have triggered the visa flag, but insists he has no involvement in the matter.

Authorities have not issued any formal statement regarding the visa flag
