By Belize Live News Staff: A Belizean woman is sharing her story of courage and survival after enduring more than a decade of domestic abuse, hoping to inspire others to seek help and speak out.
Consi Chen says she lived in fear for over ten years in a violent relationship, hiding her pain and believing things would change. “The person who was supposed to love and protect me became the one who hurt me the most,” she recalled.
Chen said her turning point came when her children’s father attacked her with a machete while her kids watched in horror. “I will never forget the fear in their eyes,” she said. “That’s when I knew something had to change.”
She says rebuilding her life wasn’t easy, but with the support of others, she found the strength to walk away and start over. “You can survive too,” she told victims still living in fear. “You are not alone. Surviving doesn’t make you a victim, it makes you a warrior.”
