Cabinet expresses outrage over deaths in Orange Walk domestic violence attack

By Belize Live News Staff: The Cabinet of Belize has issued a firm condemnation of the recent domestic violence incident in Orange Walk, calling it a heinous and heartbreaking tragedy that demands national reflection and action.

In its Tuesday meeting, Cabinet members expressed sorrow and outrage at the murder of a Belizean mother and her two children, who perished in an act of arson committed by the woman’s former partner.

Cabinet extended condolences to the victims’ loved ones and reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy toward all forms of domestic and gender-based violence.

“Domestic violence is not a private matter but a national concern that threatens the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of Belizean families and communities,” the Cabinet’s statement read.

The Government committed to strengthening Belize’s national framework for prevention, protection, and prosecution, emphasizing that laws and support systems must be reinforced to stop such acts before they occur.

Cabinet has also directed the Ministry of Human Development, Family Support and Gender Affairs, alongside the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Health and Wellness, to collaborate closely in providing resources and services for survivors and affected families.

Officials urged churches, community leaders, and civil society organizations to join in a united call for education, advocacy, and stronger community intervention to end domestic violence once and for all.
