Woman sought restraining order Friday before ex-partner allegedly set fatal fire

Police identify ex-partner as arson suspect in fatal San Felipe fire

By Belize Live News Staff: A tragedy in San Felipe Village has claimed the lives of 35-year-old Angelita Magana and her 6-year-old son, Tishan, in what police are investigating as a fatal arson.

The suspect, her ex-partner Francisco Godoy, had just been released from prison on October 7th.

Police reports indicate that Magana had been living in fear of Godoy, who had a history of domestic violence against her.

She had actively tried to protect herself and her family, going to the court on Friday to secure a restraining order. Tragically, she was unable to file the order as the court had already closed for the day.

Just days later, Godoy, who had been searching for her new address, allegedly set the fatal fire.

Godoy and Magana’s 17-year-old daughter were also caught in the blaze and are both listed in critical condition.
