By Belize Live News Staff: The People’s United Party (PUP) marked its 75th anniversary on Monday, celebrating a milestone that traces back to its founding on September 29, 1950.
Over a thousand leaders, delegates, and supporters gathered on Sunday, September 28, in Orange Walk Town for the National Party Council under the theme, “PUP @ 75: Serving the People, Continuing the Revolution.”
The highlight of the event came with inspirational addresses by Deputy Party Leader Cordel Hyde and Party Leader and Prime Minister John Briceño.
Special recognitions included the Youth Award to 13 young Belizeans, the George Price Service to the People Award to 32 long-standing supporters, and the Gwen Lizarraga Award to 12 women who have contested general elections for the PUP. The Party Leader’s Award was presented to Samuel Waight, the party’s highest honor.
A pinning ceremony recognized members of the Order of Distinguished Service for their commitment to the party and the nation.
Party Chairman Henry Usher also swore in new Secretary General Mr. Collet Montejo, with the party expressing confidence in his leadership to uphold the PUP’s legacy and values
