Trump blasts UN in fiery speech, says body is failing to live up to potential

By Belize Live News Staff: U.S. President Donald Trump used his address to the United Nations General Assembly today to deliver a blistering critique of the global body, saying it is “not even coming close” to fulfilling its purpose.

In a roughly hourlong speech, Trump accused the UN of being filled with “empty words” that fail to solve wars, while touting his administration’s second-term achievements. He also warned European leaders that embracing “green energy scams” and “open-door migration policies” would devastate their economies and cultures, describing them as a “double-tailed monster.”

The speech mixed sharp criticism with moments of self-congratulation, as Trump pointed to expanded U.S. oil drilling and crackdowns on immigration as successes. Still, he told UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres that America remains “100 percent” supportive of the institution’s potential for peace.

Trump also touched on Gaza and Ukraine, threatening Russia with tariffs if it refuses peace talks and slamming the international push for Palestinian statehood, calling it a “reward for terrorists.” The wide-ranging remarks drew mixed reactions from delegates, with groans, applause, and uneasy laughter punctuating the session.
