By Belize Live News Staff: CARICOM has issued a strong statement condemning a series of border incursions by the Guatemalan Armed Forces (GAF) into Belizean territory.
According to Belizean officials, between September 10–13, members of the GAF illegally crossed into Belize’s Sarstoon River, raised a Guatemalan flag on Belizean land, and engaged in aggressive actions, including attempts to ram a Belizean military vessel. Reports also confirm that Belizeans navigating the river were harassed and obstructed.
CARICOM described these actions as blatant violations of Belize’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The regional body said it stands firmly with Belize and called on Guatemala to respect international law and the established borders.
