By Belize Live News Staff: The Government of Belize finalized a loan agreement with the Inter-American Development Bank on September 5th for up to seven million US dollars. The agreement, aimed at improving labor force participation and employability, was officially signed at the Belize Investment Summit in San Pedro Town.
The program will focus on strengthening technical and vocational training, upskilling, and youth employment initiatives. Special emphasis will be placed on supporting women, youth, and migrants, who often face significant barriers to employment.
Julie Ramlal, Communications Consultant for the IDB Country Office in Belize, noted that the program will increase the supply of skilled labor in key sectors and ensure training aligns with market needs. An additional non-reimbursable one million US dollars will also be provided through the bank’s grant facility, with further co-financing from Taiwan’s International Cooperation and Development Fund.
