By Belize Live News Staff: This morning, Prime Minister John Briceño engaged in a cordial and substantive telephone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The discussion reaffirmed the strong and enduring relationship between Belize and the United States and touched upon several areas of mutual interest and concern.
During the call, Prime Minister Briceño and Secretary Rubio discussed matters pertaining to bilateral investment initiatives, the current status of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) program, and issues relating to the trade tariffs regime. The Prime Minister also provided an update on Belize’s ongoing efforts regarding the Belize-Guatemala territorial dispute before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), underscoring Belize’s commitment to a peaceful and lawful resolution.
Both leaders also addressed the situation in Haiti, recognizing the urgent need for strengthened international support to assist the Haitian people and prevent further escalation of the humanitarian crisis.
Prime Minister Briceño reiterated Belize’s dedication to regional cooperation, sustainable development, and the promotion of democratic principles. The Government of Belize remains committed to maintaining and enhancing its strong partnership with the United States for the benefit of both nations.
