By Belize Live News Staff: A Belize City woman has been found guilty of manslaughter for the stabbing death of her common-law husband, following a domestic dispute last August. Twenty-nine-year-old Shantel Williams was convicted by Justice Derek Sylvester in connection with the death of 39-year-old Louis Adolphus.
The fatal incident took place around 1:00 a.m. on August 2nd at Adolphus’ residence on Curassow Street. The couple reportedly had an argument over an umbrella and another woman. The altercation escalated, and Williams later confessed to stabbing Adolphus near his neck and shoulder.
A key witness, Adolphus’ brother—an officer with the Belize Police Department—testified that the victim had taken a knife and given another to Williams, who then allegedly told him that she had stabbed Adolphus and that he wouldn’t survive.
Despite Williams’ claim of self-defense, Justice Sylvester ruled that she had a chance to walk away after disarming Adolphus and did not accept her version of events. Williams will be sentenced on April 29th.
