Elvia Vega addresses family rift amid independent election campaign

By Belize Live News Staff: Independent candidate Elvia Vega has shed light on the personal challenges she’s encountered while campaigning for the Corozal Bay seat, including a lack of support from her brother’s family.

Vega, who is determined to carry on the legacy of her late brother, David “Dido” Vega, stated that her political journey has been met with resistance from some family members. Despite this, she remains committed to her goal of serving the people of Corozal Bay.

“My brother’s family wasn’t exactly supportive of him, so their lack of support for my campaign doesn’t come as a surprise,” Vega said. She emphasized that her decision to run as an independent candidate stems from a desire to continue the work her brother started before his passing, focusing on improving the lives of Corozal Bay residents.

While People’s United Party (PUP) candidate Thea Garcia Ramirez remains confident in her campaign, Vega stands firm in her belief that her independent candidacy offers voters an alternative choice. Despite the familial challenges, she is determined to forge ahead, driven by the support of her community and her commitment to honoring her brother’s memory.

As the general elections draw near, Vega’s campaign continues to focus on the needs of the people, with or without the backing of her brother’s family.
