By Belize Live News Staff: The Ministry of Human Development, Families, and Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Mrs. Elizabeth Arnold-Talbert, affectionately known as Ms. Betty. A true champion of social justice and gender equality, Ms. Betty dedicated her life to public service, making an indelible mark in Belize, the Caribbean, and Eastern Africa.
Throughout her distinguished career, she was a driving force in advancing reproductive health services, human rights, and policies that empowered women, girls, and marginalized communities. In Belize, her contributions laid the groundwork for the Statistical Institute of Belize and helped shape evidence-based policies in collaboration with the Ministry.
Her leadership extended beyond national borders. As Regional Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), she tackled critical challenges such as maternal health, youth empowerment, and gender-based violence across the Caribbean. Her tireless efforts transformed lives, leaving a legacy of advocacy and progress.
Beyond her professional achievements, Ms. Betty was known for her warmth, compassion, and dedication to the people she served. She was not only a leader but also a mentor, advocate, and friend to many.
Her legacy will continue to inspire generations to strive for a more just and inclusive world. Belize mourns the loss of an extraordinary woman whose impact will be felt for years to come.
