Minister Martinez visits Marie Sharp’s to boost global trade expansion

By Belize Live News Staff: Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Dr. Osmond Martinez, led a high-level visit to Marie Sharp’s Fine Foods Ltd. in the Stann Creek Valley to explore strategies for expanding Belize’s global trade footprint. The visit, which included officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and BELTRAIDE, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting local businesses and enhancing export opportunities.

Marie Sharp’s Fine Foods Ltd. has successfully penetrated major international markets, including the United Kingdom, Japan, Dubai, and the United States. Now, the company aims to expand into South Korea, Canada, and Mexico but faces challenges in production, logistics, and trade costs.

During discussions, company representatives sought government support in reducing import costs, improving supply chain management, and streamlining trade processes. Minister Martinez acknowledged these concerns, pledging to work towards solutions that strengthen Belize’s agricultural exports.

Marie Sharp’s impact extends beyond exports, as the company has helped local pepper farmers grow their businesses through interest-free financing. Additionally, the company is exploring a strategic distribution hub in Panama to expand its reach in the Caribbean and South America.

The Belize government remains dedicated to fostering trade partnerships and supporting businesses like Marie Sharp’s as part of its broader economic growth and export diversification strategy.
