Dining out becomes more expensive as food prices rise in Belize

By Belize Live News Staff: New data from the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) reveals that the cost of dining out and food products has increased, putting more strain on Belizeans’ pockets.

For December 2024, the category of ‘Restaurants and Accommodation Services’ saw a 2.4% price increase, making eating out more expensive compared to previous months. Additionally, food prices, including vegetables and other staples, recorded higher costs across the board.

The inflation rate for food stood at 5% in December 2024, highlighting a continued upward trend in the cost of living. With the cost of essential goods rising, Belizeans are feeling the impact on their daily expenses.

Authorities have not yet indicated whether any policy measures will be introduced to address rising food costs. However, economic analysts warn that inflation could continue to affect household budgets in the coming months.
