By Belize Live News Staff: Authorities have detained two male suspects for questioning in the murder investigation of Adelita Gillett and Felix Martinez, a couple from Burrel Boom. Police Commissioner Chester Williams has confirmed the detentions and revealed a potential link between the murders and a financial dispute.
According to Williams, the couple had been involved in a monetary conflict with one of the suspects, a local car dealer. The dispute reportedly began in October of last year when Gillett and Martinez paid $30,000 to have a vehicle shipped to Belize from the United States. Despite weeks of waiting, the vehicle never arrived, prompting the couple to demand their money back and consider legal action.
Investigators suspect that the car dealer may have lured the couple to the location under the pretense of repaying the owed money. The area where the victims were found, along the Phillip Goldson Highway, is not a place they were known to frequent, which further supports the theory that they were ambushed.
On Monday night, police discovered the couple’s bodies inside their black SUV, which was riddled with bullet holes on both the driver’s and passenger’s sides.
Investigations remain active, with law enforcement working to determine the full circumstances of this tragic incident.
