By Belize Live News Staff: Authorities in Belize are investigating the theft of a boat engine and fuel tank, stolen from a marina in Belize City early Wednesday morning.
According to police, a fisherman reported the incident after being informed by the owner of the marina, located 2 ½ miles on the Philip Goldson Highway, that the engine of his boat was missing.
The fisherman arrived at the marina to find his skiff, a grey, green, and white fiberglass boat named “Out Law” (license plate BZ-0859), still docked but missing its 40-horsepower Yamaha 2-stroke engine, valued at 10,800 Belize dollars ($5,400 USD), as well as a 7-gallon red plastic gas tank.
Surveillance footage from the marina showed two unidentified men arriving at the dock at approximately 1:30 a.m. in a small dory. The suspects were seen detaching the engine and removing the gas tank before fleeing toward Belize City’s Belcan Bridge.
Police have taken statements from the boat owner and the marina operator, and all law enforcement formations have been alerted. No suspects have been identified, and the stolen items remain unrecovered.
The investigation is ongoing.
