By Belize Live News Staff: A 17-year-old student from Roaring Creek Village is recovering at the Western Regional Hospital after a violent altercation on Friday afternoon left him with a severe injury to his back.
The incident occurred around 3:30 PM as the teenager and a fellow student were walking through the Central Walkway. Reports indicate that the pair was approached by an unemployed man from the area. A verbal exchange quickly escalated after the student commented on the man’s unpleasant odor, leading to a confrontation.
Tensions boiled over when the teenager punched the man in the face and attempted to walk away. The man allegedly retaliated by attacking the student with a box cutter, delivering a 12-inch deep cut to the right side of his back.
The injured teen was rushed to the Western Regional Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and was kept overnight for observation. Medical professionals confirm that his condition is stable.
Police have detained the alleged attacker as investigations into the altercation continue. Authorities are working to determine the exact sequence of events and assess whether additional charges will be brought against the suspect.
