Eviction notice sparks physical fight, stabbing in Belize City

By Belize Live News Staff:  On January 1st, around 7:30 p.m., Belize City police responded to a stabbing incident on Pitter Street, stemming from a tenant eviction dispute. Initial investigations revealed a heated verbal altercation between Deniesha Tillett, 35, and her tenant, Darlene McKenzie, 37, due to an eviction notice.

The situation escalated when Tillett’s brother-in-law, Mervin Martin, 28, got into a physical fight with Emerson Garnett. Reports indicate that Garnett allegedly stabbed Martin several times during the altercation.

Authorities have detained one person in connection with the incident as investigations continue.
