By Belize Live News Staff: A robbery along the George Price Highway on Saturday afternoon left a 42-year-old archeologist injured and robbed of valuables worth over $3,000.
The victim was walking toward Benque Viejo Town at around 4:45 p.m. when she was ambushed by two men on a black motorcycle. Both assailants, described as Hispanic and wearing helmets, stopped in front of her before one of them dismounted and confronted her with a knife.
During the violent encounter, the attacker placed the knife at her neck, leading to a struggle during which she suffered cuts to her right arm and back. The assailant then cut the straps of her handbag and escaped on the motorcycle with his accomplice, heading in the direction of San Ignacio.
The stolen items included her wallet, which contained cash and personal belongings, a cellphone, and a taser. The total estimated value of the stolen property is $3,370 BZD.
Police were informed of the incident and issued a medico-legal form for the victim’s injuries. Surveillance footage from the area was reviewed but failed to provide a clear image of the suspects or the motorcycle, complicating the investigation.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
