Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter dies at 100

By Belize Live News Staff: Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, a global figure of compassion and humanitarian service, has passed away at the age of 100, the Carter Center announced. Carter, who served as the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981, was revered for his commitment to peace, human rights, and global development.

After a series of short hospital stays, the former president began home hospice care in February 2023. He passed away peacefully at his home, marking the end of a life dedicated to service.

Carter’s wife, Rosalynn Carter, who shared his journey for over 77 years, passed away on November 19, 2023. As the former first lady, she was a champion for mental health awareness and caregiving, leaving a profound legacy alongside her husband.

In Belize, Jimmy Carter’s work with the Carter Center has been closely observed and respected, particularly for its advocacy in conflict resolution and election monitoring worldwide. His tireless efforts to improve health, promote democracy, and fight poverty resonated far beyond the borders of the United States.

Carter’s post-presidential work solidified his reputation as a global statesman. From eradicating Guinea worm disease to building homes for the underserved through Habitat for Humanity, his initiatives impacted millions of lives.

As tributes pour in from across the world, Carter’s legacy will be remembered not only as a U.S. leader but as a humanitarian whose influence touched lives far and wide, including here in Belize.
