By Belize Live News Staff: Unstable atmospheric conditions are expected to bring persistent rain and gusty winds to Belize over the next 48 hours, with a Small Craft Warning issued due to rough seas and strong winds.
The Belize Meteorological Service reports that current weather patterns will produce mostly cloudy to overcast skies with showers and isolated thunderstorms. While most activity remains offshore during the morning, rain will migrate inland by evening, particularly affecting southern and coastal areas.
Marine conditions are predicted to remain hazardous, with winds from the north to northeast blowing at 10 to 20 knots, accompanied by powerful gusts. Wave heights will range from 5 to 7 feet, keeping the seas moderate to rough. Small craft operators have been instructed to seek safe harbor until conditions improve.
The country is experiencing cooler-than-average December temperatures. Coastal areas will see highs around 77°F (25°C) and lows of 70°F (21°C), while inland areas will range between 74°F (23°C) and 65°F (18°C). In the hills, temperatures may drop as low as 59°F (15°C) during the night.
Friday is forecast to bring partly cloudy skies and isolated showers, concentrated mainly along the southern coast in the morning. However, by Friday night, rainfall activity is expected to increase significantly, especially along coastal regions.
The public is encouraged to stay informed and exercise caution, particularly those involved in fishing, boating, or other marine activities. Officials warn that these unstable conditions may linger beyond Friday.
