By Belize Live News Staff: Police are investigating a stabbing incident that occurred early Saturday morning, November 9, 2024, in San Pedro Town. Around 4:05 a.m., police were alerted that a man with apparent stab wounds had been admitted to the San Pedro Polyclinic.
The victim, identified as a 42-year-old bartender from Sea Grape Drive, sustained a stab wound to the upper left chest and a blow to the forehead. According to his initial statement, he was socializing with friends in the DFC area when an unknown male approached and attacked him. The victim was treated locally before being airlifted to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) in Belize City for further care.
Later that afternoon, investigators visited an apartment on Sea Grape Drive and encountered a 21-year-old cook. Bloodstains and broken bottles were found inside the apartment. Further investigation revealed that the stabbing occurred after an altercation between the victim and his common-law partner during a gathering. Allegedly, the dispute escalated when the victim accused her of infidelity, leading to a physical confrontation. During the altercation, the partner reportedly inflicted the stab wound.
Police have processed the scene, collected evidence, and retrieved two kitchen knives. Statements were recorded from neighbors, and surveillance footage is under review. The investigation is ongoing, with the woman currently detained for questioning. Meanwhile, the victim has since discharged himself from KHMH, and his statement is pending.
