By Belize Live News Staff: With Donald Trump recently elected as the 47th President of the United States, concerns over mass deportations have resurfaced. Many Belizeans living in the U.S., some undocumented, could face the prospect of returning home. However, Prime Minister John Briceño views this as an opportunity rather than a crisis.
In a recent interview, PM Briceño stated, “If they bring back Belizeans, we need workers. We will welcome them back, and we’ll continue to work closely with the U.S., our most important partner.” He downplayed fears of strained relations, noting Belize’s longstanding collaboration with the U.S. on various fronts.
When asked about potential changes in diplomatic relations under Trump’s administration, Briceño remarked, “Certainly for Belize, it’s not a career stop. Ambassadors love working here. Belize offers a unique environment where diplomats thrive, professionally and personally.”
Briceño reassured that Belize’s strong ties with the U.S. will remain intact, regardless of political shifts. “We’re warm, friendly people, and ambassadors fall in love with Belize,” he added, highlighting the country’s appeal as both a diplomatic post and a homeland for returning citizens.
